Thursday, September 1, 2016:   USS Midway Tour,  Two Hour Harbor Excursion

Depart the Handlery Hotel @ 0930 and proceed directly to the Midway. With advanced tickets they board the Midway together, with no lines. The ship is handicap friendly with elevators and park benches throughout the ship.

Everyone receives a complimentary light weight audio set, this allows the group to fan out to their favorite exhibits. Simply push the button on the audio set and it narrates about the exhibit you are looking at, with all the information, about it.

At noon we reboard the bus and move on a short distance to the harbor excursion.

We board again as a group, and cast off for a narrated two hour harbor excusion. Passing by five military installations, including 32nd Street Naval Station. Just before final mooring after the completion of the harbor tour, the ship passes by the bow of the Midway for a special photo op, up close to the Midway's bow, and the port side of the ship.

Also during the cruise everyone receives a box lunch including dessert and beverage, to enjoy at their leisure.

We will return back to the hotel by 1530.

 Friday, September 2, 2016:  San Diego, Mount Soledad Veteran's Memorial, Harbor side luncheon

Departs the hotel @ 0930 The tour begins in La Jolla at the top of Mount Soledad. The area represents a one of a kind Veteran's Memorial with a 360 degree view of San Dieo at 900 feet above sea level. The group will have time to explore on foot, up close and take some rare unobstructed views of San Diego looking in all directions.

The tour is narrated and we will then proceed back to Coronado, crossing the same bridge, the day before the group sailed under. The sweeping view is another panoramic  look at San Diego and the Pacific.

The tour will move through Balboa Park, and the Gaslamp, downtown, where the old Navy bars and locker clubs use to be.

A brief stop at Seaport Village for postcards or a cup of coffee, then on to a delicious luncheon on the harbor at the renovated Bali Hai restaurant, located on Shelter Island, with one of the best views of the harbor, and dining.

Before returning to the hotel after lunch we will visit the former NTC, with another photo op at the refurbished USS Recruit.
